Probability Explained. With a Worksheet.

If you reached into the box with your eyes closed. what would be the probability of choosing a green cake? How do you work it out? Read on for probability explained with a worksheet.

Probability is a branch of mathematics that deals with the likelihood or chance of different outcomes. It’s a way of quantifying uncertainty. The probability of an event happening is represented by a number between 0 and 1, where 0 means the event is impossible, 1 means it is certain, and values in between represent varying degrees of likelihood.

Probability(P)=Number of Favourite outcomes divided by the Total number of possible outcomes

Steps to Calculate Probability:

1. Define the Experiment:

  • Clearly, define the experiment or event you are analyzing. This could be rolling a die, flipping a coin, drawing a card from a deck, etc.

2. Identify the Possible Outcomes:

  • Determine all the possible outcomes of the experiment. For example, if you are rolling a six-sided die, the possible outcomes are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

3. Identify the Favorable Outcomes:

  • Determine which outcomes are considered favorable for the event you are interested in. For instance, if you want to find the probability of rolling an even number, the favorable outcomes are 2, 4, and 6.

4. Count the Outcomes:

  • Count the number of favorable outcomes and the total number of possible outcomes. Let’s say you have 3 favorable outcomes (rolling an even number) and 6 possible outcomes (rolling any number).

5. Apply the Formula:
