English Tuition
English tuition can be seen as the most important for a number of reasons. As well as helping students to achieve their English qualifications, the teaching of English and literacy skills are transferable to all subjects. KS1 Tutors and Phonics Tutors
Year 1: Children will have a phonics screening assessment. Our specialist phonics tutors can help your child to reach the expected standard so that they do not have to repeat the screening the following year.
KS1: Children are assessed for their reading, grammar and punctuation. Our KS1 tutors will help to prepare for these benchmark assessments. They will focus on the skills that are required and use KS1 practice assessments to tutor the areas that need developing.
KS2 Tutors
KS2: The national SATs assess children to see if they have reached the required standard for reading, spelling, grammar and punctuation. The SATs assessments are particularly important as these will be used at secondary school to set targets and inform teaching groups. KS3 English Tutors
KS3: Your child will be taught the skills, knowledge and application needed to prepare them for their GCSE English exams at KS4. Our English tutors will work with your child to help them to develop their skills with spoken language, reading and writing. At this level, children need to be able to understand increasingly challenging texts and a wider, more sophisticated range of vocabulary. Although we no longer have KS3 SATs assessments, our specialist tutors will continually assess against KS4 benchmark criteria to help your child to be ahead of the game at KS4.
GCSE English Tutors
Your child will sit both English Language and English Literature exams. Our GCSE English tutors will work with students to build on their existing knowledge while identifying the gaps that need particular attention. Students will be taught in a tailored way that will help them to be ‘exam ready.’ Our specialist English tutors will work to the requirements of each exam board and will use past papers and mock exams to ensure exam success. As there is no longer a ‘foundation tier’ for English, it is important that students are able to understand complex texts and be given the tools to confidently read for meaning and extract relevant information.
A level English Tutors
The transition from GCSE English to A level English can be difficult for some students. Our A level tutors will focus on the additional skills that are needed for A Level, while preparing students for the further academic study methods needed at university. Whether studying for language, literature, or both, our A level tutors will identify the gaps and tailor the learning to help reach the standard required for university.
Adult Learners
It is never too late to achieve your English qualification. Our English tutors can work with you to teach you the skills that you need to pass your GCSE English language. We also have English Functional Skills tutors who can work with you to achieve level 1 or level 2 qualifications, making their teaching relevant to your workplace.
